A House of Open Arms

A House of Open Arms is a two-level villa in Coral Bay on the island of St. John. It has an art studio on the top floor and a beautiful main villa unit on the second floor, with a bedroom, a private bathroom, a full kitchen, expansive porch and a wonderful garden and pool in front of the porch.

Below the main house lies the Cottage. The Cottage is a single-room, simple, beautiful studio, with an outdoor private shower, an outdoor partial kitchen (including a sink, a grill with side burner, and a small refrigerator), a wraparound porch, a private bathroom, and an airy main room that serves as a living room during the day and bedroom at night.

THE VILLA

The lower level of the main house is the Villa. It has one-bedroom and one-bathroom and is perfect for two people looking for a secluded, yet comfortable escape. Surrounded by the natural beauty of St. John, it is a perfect getaway for couples, especially hikers, nature-lovers, newlyweds, artists, and writers.

When the Villa is rented along with the Cottage, A House of Open Arms becomes a fantastic family vacation spot; parents keep their privacy up in the Villa, while the kids have an adventure down in the Cottage.

The Villa's beautiful bedroom has its own sliding glass door entrance to the porch and features a luxurious queen-size sleigh bed and a CD player. The living room has a small collection of books and games, a plush couch made for relaxing, reading, and conversation, and original artwork decorating its walls. Two sliding glass doors open out to the porch, allowing in warm island breezes.

A full kitchen, uniquely shaped in a circle, allows culinary freedom and includes a refrigerator, a gas oven and range, fine dishware, and an elegant table for four.

Outside, the porch provides you with an expansive view of the island and the ocean. You can see both sides of St. John wrapping around you, tucking you into the island's embrace. The sounds of waves breaking on the coral beach below, gentle breezes, and the songs of island birds combine to create a peaceful, serene environment.

The Cottage is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom studio located down the hill below the main house amidst gorgeous natural surroundings. Perfect for two people, it will make artists, writers, hikers, nature-lovers, newlyweds, and couples feel right at home.

The Cottage is simple Caribbean in style, but technologically advanced enough to be completely self-sufficient: it runs completely on solar energy and uses purified rainwater. It features a lovely porch, a private outdoor stone shower attached to a beautifully faux-finished bathroom, and an outdoor cooking area. For fun, the Cottage has a CD player and a small collection of books and games.

The outdoor kitchen has dishware, a gas grill and range, a small refrigerator, and a sink.

A House of Open Arms is a unique opportunity for inspiration, a charming and inviting place for introspection, a perfect base from which to explore the islands, and a spectacular retreat from the world. Entirely powered by solar energy and fed by purified rainwater, both the House and the Cottage are as self-sufficient as possible, while retaining modern conveniences. Eco-tourism here is an easy proposition. This is truly a place to experience simple, yet very comfortable Caribbean living.

The House takes its name from the two peninsulas on the eastern end of St. John that wrap the knob of Fortsberg in their folds. It is a place of warm welcomes and temperate breezes, offering respite, rejuvenation, and inspiration to those who are drawn to it.

Cool ocean breezes, crashes of breaking waves, and songs of island birds waft through its open, airy main room. Standing on the porch, you can see the arms of the island tucking you into its charming embrace. In the morning, the sun greets you and gently wakes you with its light and warmth. In the afternoon and evening, cool, crisp shade envelopes the Cottage, bringing a relaxing and serene close to each day.

Reservations policy

Reservations guaranteed with 50% deposit. Remaining 50% due 30 days before arrival. In the event of cancellation, a penalty of 20% of the booking amount will be assessed, provided that the reservation can be rebooked. If the reservation cannot be rebooked, the deposit is forfeited. Rates subject to change without notice, but are guaranteed upon receipt of deposit.
