Best Vacation Location on St John

We’re of a group of four adult family members who have traveled to St John’s for the last nine years. We have tried numerous management companies staying at various villas throughout the island. This is the first villa we stayed in more than once and are planning our next year’s stay at this location. We have been spoiled with the best. The villa is everything it professes to be and so much more. The listing is accurate, the pictures are accurate, the private location and ease of parking, thoroughly cleaned inside and out, amenities, the convenience of electric power when the island lost power and villa layout. Highly recommend to family and friends. We’ll be back.

Best Escape from Oregon Winter

Reef Bay Villa provided a terrific winter escape destination/family reunion site for myself and three siblings and our spouses. The tans are fading but the memories are not. The villa offered plenty of privacy with its three separate buildings for a large group like ours; we would gather in the central great room/kitchen in the morning, have breakfast on the patio next to the pool, decide on our beach destination of the day, and head out to explore the island. Two bedrooms with a shared bath are on the other side of a small patio from the great room building; the two master suites are on the other side of the pool — this offers great ventilation, terrific views, and privacy, so you are not all on top of each other. The breezes during our February stay were lovely and we never used A/C. Viky, the concierge, was extremely helpful with meeting us at the ferry, getting us to the car rental place and the grocery store, and orienting us to the villa. When the coffee machine went on the fritz, a new one appeared in the kitchen within a few hours of our call. We felt well taken care of. The villa is immaculate and the Balinese touches are unique and beautiful. There is plenty of seating in the great room for after dinner socializing. One of our favorite things about staying at Reef Bay Villa was the fact that you didn’t need a car to walk along the beach below the house all the way to the Petroglyphs, the Reef Bay Sugar Mill, and Lameshur Bay — and mostly without seeing another person! We mostly cooked dinners together at the villa in the very well equipped kitchen with spectacular views. We had a nice dinner all together in Cruz Bay the first night at the Banana Deck and ate at Shipwreck Landing in Coral Bay later in the week after an excellent afternoon snorkel sail with Rick and Robin on their Long Distance yacht, recommended by the guest book at the villa. We did pay the $20 fee to park at Caneel Bay but since we ate lunch at one of the restaurants at this very beautiful resort, the fee was waived. Our favorite beach was Cinnamon Bay, where we snorkeled around Cinnamon Cay offshore. The villa provides a cooler for picnic lunches, beach chairs, and snorkel gear so we never had to rent. So easy to just arrive, relax and enjoy the island. Thanks to the Ward family for creating such a lovely retreat on St. John.

Family Vacation, Adult Children

This was a beautiful house located close to town yet secluded, access to the beach was wonderful for us. Enjoyed lounging around the pool with outside eating facilities and hot tub. House was more than comfortable for 8 people. Comfortable sleeping with the sound of waves heard even over the air conditioning which was just needed for the evening sleep. The screened porch was great for a getaway hideout, but we didn’t even have mosquito issues this trip. Thank you for opening your home to us. It was comfortable and lovely. Would definitely come back and recommend this home to friends

Graduation Vacation Celebration

Just returned from a great vacation (5/21-5/28) staying at this villa with my husband and 2 adult children with friends. The house provided us with plenty of room to gather in the evenings or privacy when needed. The trade winds help keep us cool and bug-free. After long days of hiking trails and snorkeling, we would relax around the pool and grill fish most days. We loved the seclusion and access to the National Park. The first night was a full moon and the hot tub location was magical! My favorite spot! The family really enjoyed this piece of heaven. Thank you for opening up your house.

Beautiful villa rental on St. John in the National Park

We stayed here (8/8 – 8/18), my family and my brother’s, four adults and four boys ranging in age from 15 to 25. The villa is beautiful, with a lovely view as it is perched on a hillside, nice decor, and comfortably appointed. The on-island manager, Viki, is a gem. She gave us great recommendations and was immediately responsive. The gentle tradewinds made August on St. John comfortable.

The villa is set up with a middle great room (not air-conditioned) and an outside eating area near the pool, plus a screened porch. On each side are the bedrooms, the two masters on one side, and on the other, a room with two twins and one with a queen. My older son originally thought he’d sleep on a couch (not wanting to share the queen with his brother), but because of the lack of AC, we rented a cot for him from Island Babies at Viki’s recommendation. The ladies at Island Babies are delightful, and I’d suggest using them for any similar needs. Viki’s recommendations for island-hopping charters and fishing charters were also spot-on– the latter got us two nights of fresh mahi-mahi dinners!

We ate at home most of the time, and the kitchen is provided with most things a cook would need to turn out a good meal for eight hungry people.

The owner, like most on St. John, is very environmentally conscious. We were told by a repairman who came by that kilowatt-hours on St. John is the third most expensive in the world! We tried to do our part by turning off the AC when not in the bedrooms. This is no problem, as the construction of the house keeps the rooms cool for hours. The island was also in the middle of a drought, so we were careful about water. Even the boys cheered when we had two days of rain!

The beach is accessible by a path. I was not able to make it there due to some mobility issues, but everyone else did. The path leads to a beach that you can’t access due to sea urchins and coral, but if you go to the right, there is a clear path into the water. Everyone told me that the beach is truly beautiful. The pool is a delight. When we got overheated, we would just jump in and be cooled off by the tradewinds.

For ten years, we have rented a house on the Outer Banks in August. The kids wanted to do something different. Absolutely everyone was delighted with Reef Bay Villa and we would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you to the owner for sharing his home with us.
